a line of light

For LVMH & Maison/0

2023 - A sustainable & poetic concept for an off-grid lighting installation, communicating LVMH’s decision to turn lights off in all stores worldwide during the nine hours of the night, to embrace our biological clock and bio-diversity.

A sketch symbolises the beginning of every design process and demonstrates the craft and skill of the designer. It is also one of the most cherished elements of luxury design. For many hours designs will be sketched and perfected before materials are added.

A line of light is an ode to every designer’s unique sketching style, by representing the art director’s personal handwriting in the object, specific to each fashion house.

Nine marbles represent nine hours that the lights are off. Every hour, one marble will take sixty minutes to slowly roll down the track emphasising the rest we should take at night for ourselves and our environment. When the marble rolls down the intensity of the light increases showing a line of light. During the night, the light fades from blue to yellow, symbolising sunset and sunrise.

A social media campaign is created to support the installations in the physical stores and emphasis on the loss of bio-diversity. The campaign shows sketches of endangered species and shares information on their region and current condition.

The focus of the first nine species lays on Ile-de-France, the area around Paris, France and mentions the Sparrow, Wild Bishop, Hungarian Glider, Luronium, Pipistrelle Bat, Forget-Me-Not, Violet Click Beetle, Reed Canary Grass and Freshwater Pearl Mussel.
